This home is a wonderful example of what can be done to save a building from the brink of destruction.  When we signed on to this project, this home and been vacant for some time and had been poorly taken care of many years prior. After gutting it to the studs, we discovered the entire second floor was structurally unstable and required rebuilding. This provided an opportunity to improve a number of issues with the layout and add in a dormer to allow for a walk-out second-floor deck over the porch.

We wanted to maintain the scale of the house, while giving it an updated modern feel, and the deck with angled columns and cedar-slat railing plus cedar accents helped us achieve that goal. This house has an entry hall with a staircase that hearkens back to the home’s original layout, but with a fully modern, open-concept living/dining/kitchen area. The second floor has a loft area just outside the large master suite with dual closets. Out back is a patio with sunken fire pit area and a custom-designed fence that matches the home’s architecture. The patio is constructed with bricks reclaimed from part of the foundation that had to be replaced.
